How to plan a surprise trip

Posted by admin | Travel Insurance | Posted on November 26th, 2010

A romantic trip is a great way to get away from everything but your significant other. Planning a surprise trip makes the occasion even more special and gives you and your partner the chance to spend some quality time together.

People often love the idea of planning a romantic getaway but never bother because they think its too hard to organise. However, this is not the case. Whether its your first trip together or a trip to celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary, it’s easy to do when you stick to the following tips.

Firstly, consider your options for a romantic destination. Are you planning on driving your partner there or flying? If you are flying is it more convenient for you to drive to the airport or does it make more sense to take advantage of airport transfers? Think about the kind of mood you want to create, would your partner prefer a romantic city break or prefer walks in the country.

Deciding on the location will be your hardest task, once this is done research bed and breakfasts or small hotels in the area. You may think it’s better to go to a big chain as you then have some idea of what you are getting but, small and intimate accommodation can add a more unique sense to your trip.

If you do choose a big hotel chain, ask about special features in the room. Do any come with hot tubs or have jacuzzis or fireplaces which you can use? Once you have sorted your accommodation research the kind of things you can do whilst away. Are there any idyllic beach or country walks which you can do? You may also want to investigate cosy restaurants near your destination, but don’t forget to book a table for two.

Day 1 Sanur

Arrive in Sanur, a small Balinese village with a laid back atmosphere. Spend the day at the beach and take part in some water based activities like snorkelling and windsurfing. Or go for a sail around the lagoon in a traditional colourful ‘jukung’ fishing boat. Popular venues for nightlife include the Cat & the Fiddle restaurant at Jalan Cemara 36 or Lazer Sports Bar at Jl Danau Tamblingan 68 near the Gazebo Hotel.

Day 2 Kintamani

Travel away from the coast and ascend the scenic slopes to the highland village of Kintamani, popular with tourists due to the close proximity to Mount Batur and Batur Lake. Mount Batur is a live volcano with amzing views best see between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Batur lake is the largest lake in Bali and is the main irrigation source to the local communities.

Day 3-4 Lovina

Head towards Bali’s northern coast via the temples of Taman Ayun and pass through some of the island’s most stunning scenery. Lovina Beach is a 12 km stretch of resorts in Northern Bali, popular with backpackers for it’s nightlife of bars and restaurants. Start your day with a sunrise dolphin cruise, or head to Menjangan Island to spend time swimming, snorkeling, or diving. If you fancy relaxing, visit one of the few spas for a well deserved massage.

Day 5-6 Ubud

Ubud is the cultural heart of Balinese life. Explore the many temples and shrines, rice paddies and natural beauty, and the famous arts and craft market in the centre of town. Do not miss a visit to the Monkey Forest, a sacred village sactuary where the temples and the forest are considered essential for renewing contact with the spiritual world.

Day 7 Sanur

Travel back to the white sandy beaches of Sanur, stopping en route to soak up a bit more Balinese culture at Hindu temples and floating pavilions.

Don’t forget to take out your backpacker insurance as soon as you book your trip. It is important that you remember to check that your backpacking travel insurance policy offers you the level of cover that you need for your trip before you buy it.
