Lanzarote Flight & Accommodation Deals

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on August 3rd, 2010

Many British consumers planning a stay-cation at home may well find that it is fact far cheaper for them to take a holiday abroad.  With destinations such as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands offering excellent value for money this summer.

The recent improvement in the pound versus the euro and the discounting of holiday packages by tour operators has started to encourage a last minute rush for holidays abroad.  And Lanzarote is one of the many destinations to benefit.  Thanks to the fact that the island offers an abdundance of affordable accommodation, with Lanzarote apartments available from as little as €25 per night. Package holidays in Lanzarote have also come down in price by around 13% this summer.  As tour operators come to terms with over capacity and indulge in a bout of last minute price discounting.

Travelling to this cool Canary Island has never been cheaper too – thanks to the ready availability of low cost Lanzarote flights from airports throughout Britain.  Expect to pay around €200 return if you are planning a trip this August.  With the journey to Lanzarote taking about four hours and touching down at Arrecife airport, flight code ACE.

Where will tourists find the best accommodation deals?  Concentrate your search on the two main resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca for the best last minute offers.  Both are bustling resorts with excellent beaches and plenty of restaurants and nightlife.  Puerto del Carmen is closer to the airport and centrally located – which also makes it ideal for anyone who wants to indulge in a spot of sightseeing.  Whilst Playa Blanca is situated right at the southern foot of the island.

During August the weather in Lanzrote can get seriously hot, with temperatures climbing well into the 30´s.  Fortunately though this is usually tempered by the cooling breeze of the Trade Winds, so helping to make conditions much more bearable than on the Spanish mainland.

Many summer visitors don’t realise that Lanzarote is also hot during the winter – when it attracts loads of tourists from across Northern Europe, all keen to escape the cold and grey skies.  Even in December for example visitors can enjoy a day on the beach with temperatures in the 20´s.

Whenever tourists choose to visit they will find that Lanzarote offers a warm welcome.  As island residents are all largely dependent on tourism and are appreciative of the loyalty of British and German guests .  Many of whom return to Lanzarote year after year.

The Importance of Keeping Yourself Up to Date With Business Travel News

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on May 23rd, 2010

Do you travel for business frequently? If so it is important that you stay current on business travel news. If you miss something important, like a new airline coming into your area and offering great prices on flights, you’ll kick yourself.

There’s a new travel service that can really help with this. You can subscribe to business travel news. If you don’t know what is going on, you may miss a strike starting the day you need to leave. Wouldn’t it have been better to have known ahead of time and book with a different airline?

When you have business travel news you can also know the weather and conditions in your destination area. If you are headed to a tropical country and then suddenly have to travel again, what happens if you are sent somewhere that has frigid conditions.

If you only have light clothing in your suitcase you are going to be uncomfortable. But if you knew ahead of time you might be able to better prepare.

Remember, your destination country may not be an English speaking one. If this is the case, you may have to have a way to get an interpreter. Otherwise you may not find your way around the city.

Be careful if you are going somewhere that has a lot of crime. If you don’t know the safety of your destination you may put yourself in needless risk. For instance, be careful in China as it is common for your credit card information to be fraudulently used. There may also be pickpockets and other criminals in some areas. It is best to know what the rules and regulations for a country are.

For instance, don’t assume you can just drive yourself around China. You can’t get a car in China just because you can drive one in the United States. The law prevents this.

There is no good reason to be ignorant of the conditions and climate of your destination. You can always get current, quickly updated news on the Internet.

Time Travel with Huey Lewis and the News

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on April 25th, 2010

The lights dimmed and the wrinkles, pot bellies, and bald heads disappeared into the darkness . . . almost.

People clapped and danced to their own rhythm as Huey Lewis and the News performed one hit after another at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, Washington.

“I don’t know how to put this politely, ” Huey told the audience, “but I had dinner here at the casino and most of you are at least as old as me.”

I had eaten dinner at the same time as Huey. I left for the bathroom and came back into the restaurant and saw my wife and friends pointing and smiling in my direction. Huey had just walked past me and out the door.

Perhaps our clothes brushed each other. Perhaps we exchanged the same air. Oh, well our party had driven from Tacoma to Shelton, Washington to see Huey Lewis and I had the best opportunity for an up close and personal view, and I was adjusting my underwear. Such is life. Just like opportunity . . . we passed and never met.

Peg and I joined Donn and Debbie Irwin in their PT Cruiser (a classic car wannabe) for a comfortable journey. Donn fed the CD player with Huey’s Greatest Hits, and early rock and roll classics. Actually, Deb had him turn the volume down low so conversation could flourish, which it did. The trip lasted through several discussions, many smart alec comments, laughing fits, and one detour for Olympic Ice Cream (Kentucky Pie is yummy!). We caught up with friends Randy and Sue Lord at the casino for dinner.

After dinner, Donn and I went to the walk-in humidor for cigars, while the group went ahead to the performance hall. By the time Donn spent $30 for three cigars, we had a fairly long line to wade through. As we stood and waited, a little old man walked by everyone repeating the phrase “The heart of rock and roll is still beating.” We just looked at him and shrugged our shoulders. He turned out to be Huey’s father.

Sue reserved excellent seats. We were slightly elevated and about forty feet from stage left where Huey stood most of the time.

Huey’s lost some of his upper register, but his charm and energy carried him well through the evening. His group was outstanding. Most of them have been together a long time. Huey introduced them individually. The new guy he noted, “we didn’t meet until 7th grade.”

“So many hits, so little time,” said Huey when he came back for an encore. The concert was well worth the money and the drive. For a while I had more hair and less body as Huey Lewis and the News transported us back twenty-five years. Where has the time gone?

Eco Conscious Travel

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on November 16th, 2009

Of the many factors driving the green industry today, eco travel is one idea that is at once both attractive and controversial. So what is eco travel and why is it a hot topic of debate?

Eco Travel is a means of travel that considers economics and ecology in the decision making process of where you’ll go, how you’ll get there, where you’ll stay . . . and even what to do once you’ve arrived! At the core of understanding eco-lifestyle is the idea of minimizing our individual and collective human “footprint”, or the impact we make by our actions upon the environment. Let’s face it, every time you fly, drive your car or use other traditional modes of transportation for travel – it may get you to where you’re going fast, but the by-product produces a negative effective on the environment.

Millions of dollars are being spent by the travel industry at large. From transportation and lodging, to service and touring organizations, the hope is to reduce or offset their business impact on the environment either because they are true eco stewards, or as a means to align themselves with a rapidly growing and highly publicized consensus that we humans “should” and desperately need to care about the one planet we all share.

Some critics are proposing an immediate and aggressive change in travel behavior, such as opting not to travel and stay at home. But for many, that is an impractical solution to a broad and complex issue. Certainly, pondering such an extreme shift can bring one to come up with a multitude of less severe options along the spectrum…many which can be applied on a personal level, and some which could be shared with family and friends to help bring a brighter awareness to the topic.

According to the Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) and Silvercliffe Media, Inc. industry report for 2005, Eco Travel represents a $24.2B industry. Many countries depend solely upon tourism for their economic survival. So where do we strike a balance? For those who aren’t quite ready for homebound adventure, yet want to approach travel responsibly – here are a few resources to help you on your sustainable travel path.

CONSIDER ECO FRIENDLY LODGING

Great hospitality is something we all hope to fin d in our travels, but when it comes to green lodging, this can be a challenging task – especially for chemically sensitive individuals or those simply looking to be more in tuned with nature. From cabins and small inns, to major hotels and resorts, eco friendly lodging has become the new essential for travel.

Lapis Lane Guest House & Cabin, Whidbey WA

Lapis Lane Guesthouse and Cabin on Whidbey Island , WA are owned and operated by Elaine and Dimitri Michaelides. The property is situated on 6-acres; it’s private but easily accessible from the Clinton Ferry Station. The lovely tree lined sanctuary has been described as a “creative refuge”, donning two secluded , separate residences and a gallery/meeting space that can serve your solo retreat, romantic getaway, creative adventure or small gathering. Lapis Lane Guesthouse is situated on the west side of Whidbey Island, allowing you to capture magnificent views of the Olympic Mountains and beautiful sunsets over the Puget Sound.

“Enjoy an evening walk through wooded paths under beautiful old Fir trees. See and hear owls and coyotes. During the day bald eagles soar overhead. In August and September pick buckets of juicy wild blackberries right outside your front door.”

Both the Guest House and Cabin feature non-toxic, chemically-free living spaces, use of 100% Cotton Linens, and a recycling system. And, you won’t have to leave the property to find healthy produce. Just a short walk up the path from the Guest House is an organic heirloom garden, lovingly tended by owner and landscape consultant Elaine Michaelides – who graciously greets her guests with a bounty of fresh veggies upon arrival. Elaine created the garden herself, which provides year-round produce for her family and guests. In addition to managing the property with her husband Dimitri, Elaine extends her earth-friendly talents across the island, providing expertise in the methods of organic heirloom gardening, landscape, and seed cultivation.

The Lapis Lane Guest House is equipped with a full kitchen and pantry for your convenience. To help ease your cares away, the Guest House also features a wonderful sky-lit steam room with Jacuzzi bath. Practice your chanting while you’re in there relaxing and gazing at the starry night sky; the high ceilings provide amazing acoustics and give a whole new meaning to “singing in the shower”. If that’s not dreamy enough for you, wrap-up in one of the plush cotton robes provided, or simply melt into one of the luxurious featherbeds for the ultimate sunlit nap or an incredible night’s sleep.

When you’re ready to explore, continue a few steps further up the path from the garden and you’ll find the working studio of Elaine’s husband, Dimitri Michaelides, a nationally renowned glass artist. Michaelides who incorporates a practice of sustainability through the use of recycled glass and energy saving methods in his work process, was one of 72 artists selected by The Smithsonian, for inclusion in the permanent White House Collection of American Crafts. The Guest House and Cabin are graced with his beautiful work, distinguished by the use of bright colors to create vessels adorned with his signature hand blown birds.

If you’re lucky, you might catch Dimitri at work. The grace, speed and patience with which he works to create his art is magical . . . an amazing sight to see!

Next time you’re in the Washington area, be sure to discover Lapis Lane Guest House. It’s a lovely, relaxing and environmentally conscious option.

Costa Rica Travel News – Costa Rica, Greenest & Happiest Country on Earth

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on August 27th, 2009

The country’s astounding richness in its wildlife and biodiversity makes a Costa Rica vacation an experience to remember and the nation’s commitment to its natural riches have made the country a world leader in environmental protection and conservation.

But now it seems that Costa Rica’s record has made it more than a natural sanctuary for threatened wildlife, but a world leader in global happiness too.

A study by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) which links countries’ environmental protection to the happiness of their citizens has named Costa Rica as the greenest and happiest country in the world.

The study, called the Happy Planet Index, compares the natural resources that each country consumes with their happiness and quality of life. The report combined ecological impact with other factors including life expectancy and life satisfaction to calculate which country is the most “happy” overall.

According to the Happy Planet Index, Costa Ricans have the highest life satisfaction in the world, thanks to their long life expectancy which is slightly longer than the USA average, combined with their tiny environmental impact, which is 75% smaller than the United States’ per person equivalent.

Costa Rica has become well known throughout the world for its excellent level of environmental protection. Almost one third of the country has been protected by a system of national parks, conservation areas and natural reserves.

Some of the most popular protected areas include the World Heritage Site of Corcovado National Park which is famous for its mangrove swamps, tapirs and macaws, the beautiful beach-side Manuel Antonio National park, and Tortuguero National Park, a favorite nesting ground for endangered sea turtles.

In a separate recent survey the country was voted the number one Latin America travel destination thanks to its astonishing range of national parks protected the world’s biggest concentration of exotic, and often endangered, animal species ranging from poison arrow frogs, green leatherback turtles, the resplendent quetzal and the jaguar.

Travel Jobs – 7 ‘Jobs’ That Pay You to Travel the World

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on August 13th, 2009

Jobs that travel the world are an inconceivable dream for most people. “How, on earth,” they think, “Could I possibly get paid to travel the world?” It’s a common belief that you must save and save up a bunch of money before you can travel, then simply go for as long as your money will last.

Not only is that an outdated and incorrect belief, but it’s also a belief that will have you stuck in a never-ending cycle of frustration. Work… then travel… then work… then travel.

Boring.

There are many ways you can get paid AS you travel the world. Fortunately, there are dozens of ways to do this, so no matter your skill set, creating a travel income is something you CAN do… and you can start doing it quickly.

Here are 7 ways to make money traveling the world. Some are commonly available travel jobs, and a few are the ‘underground’ methods of making money while you travel.

1) Work a cruise ship job. You get to live aboard a luxury cruiseliner and get paid to live the lifestyle passengers pay $500 to $5000+ per week to experience!

2) Get a job as a travel or adventure guide. Visit a city or region. Get to know the best places, then get paid to show other people what you’ve found! Alternatively, you can show people how to rock climb, raft a river, jump out of a plane, zipline through a jungle… and more!

3) Become a paid travel writer. Not only can you get hired by travel magazines and guidebooks, but don’t forget about blogging & online freelance jobs. They’re plentiful!

4) Start an online marketing adventure! Most people think marketing online is too ‘technical.’ Oh contraire! If you can edit a word document you can make money with a laptop or from an internet caf

Hawai’i News Papers

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on March 22nd, 2009

The media is a very powerful force and its freedom and power reflect the same of the city, state or country.

The whole of Hawaii is served by two main newspapers. They are Honolulu based; Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star Bulletin. They are both high in circulation throughout the U.S.A. There are other local newspapers also available in the different islands. There is also an online newspaper available, called the Hawaii Reporter. It is used a lot by the locals and even the people who need to know anything about Hawaii. Hawaii is also home to a number of newspapers that differ in ethnicity like Chinese, Filipino, Korean or Japanese newspapers.

In terms of television or broadcast media it is but obvious that all the major American networks are available. Before there was satellite cable, all the broadcasted shows appeared a week behind schedule in the islands than the mainland. A lot of television series have been produced in Hawaii by some of the leading production companies of the important networks.

An integral part of the media is the film industry. Hawaii too has one and it is blossoming. It is called the Hawaii Film Office. Hawaii has been chosen as the site for the shooting of a number of many famous movies. Producers and directors have exploited the freely available but absolutely breathtaking scenic beauty and have used the scenes for backdrops.

A number of movies have been shot on these islands like Hawaii, Water world, 50 first dates, George of the jungle, Race the Sun, Pearl Harbor, Blue Crush and many many more. Recently the hit T.V show Lost was also shot here. Even the highly acclaimed animated movie Lilo and Stitch were based on the islands the life and the people. A film festival called the Hawaii International Film Festival is also held here to honor all the movies of the world and to celebrate cinema.

Thus we see that the media scene of Hawaii is pretty strong and it is still growing. Let’s wait and watch what this state which was once a territory can produce.

Low Cost Travel to Malta

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on November 26th, 2008

Good news for the holiday island of Malta has come in droves recently, following a period of decline in visitor numbers. Commenting upon the findings, a local travel guide says that while the spending per passenger while in Malta is small compared to holidaymakers, it’s an important contribution to the island’s economy.

‘The spend is estimated at around US $10,000,000. And while this represents an average of around $40 a passenger, and holidaymakers spend considerably more, an important factor is that over 80 per cent of passengers would consider stopping at Malta again, and potentially that’s a good number who would consider a land based holiday in the future.’

The good news for Malta doesn’t stop at increased numbers of cruise passengers, as low cost airlines have recently started flying to the island.

‘It’s been a while since we’ve been able to say this,’ comments YourMalta, ‘but there are exciting times ahead for the Malta holiday industry. As well as the good news on passenger numbers from cruise ships, low cost airlines have started flying in passengers and it should boost the number of new tourists quite significantly in 2007.’

The turnaround in the Malta tourist industry’s fortunes has come just in time according to some travel experts.

Hotel and holiday numbers have been declining consistently, and in late spring 2006 rumours were circulating on the island that one of the major UK travel companies were about to withdraw Malta from their 2007 brochures, with the worry that if others followed suit Malta would be relegated from mainstream to niche travel status.

The pessimism of 2006 has been replaced by optimism for 2007 as new low cost airlines have already started delivering passengers to the island, with some estimates suggesting that close to 100,000 visitors extra is on the cards for the year ahead.

Travel Predictions For 2010 – Unexpectedly Good News!

Posted by admin | Travel News | Posted on February 24th, 2008

January is traditionally the least expensive travel month of the year (and the coldest!). My suggestion is to stop worrying about taking your holiday decorations down and just run away for a week in the warm sunshine – sip a Margarita or two and scrunch your toes in the sand. You’ll find incredible deals for all-inclusive Caribbean resorts on sites like CheapCaribbean.com, AppleVacations.com and TravelZoo.com. On selected weeks this winter you can vacation for a week at an all inclusive resort in Mexico or the Dominican Republic for just over $1,000 per person including air! January also brings “Wave Week” from the cruise industry. The lowest cruise prices of the year are traditionally offered during Wave Week promotions. Keep a keen eye of sites like VacationsToGo.com, TravelZoo.com and Cruise.com to snag some deeply discounted cruises this winter. It will be very hard to find a destination cheaper than Las Vegas in 2010. The combination of new resorts just opening (City Center, Trump, and Hard Rock), coupled with a dramatic reduction in convention business means luxury resorts are discounting like never before. It’s likely you’ll be able to find deluxe Las Vegas rooms priced less than anywhere else in the country. Combine a cheap hotel room with all those low cost buffets and the spectacular stage shows, and you have the makings of a memorable vacation. Be sure to visit TravelZoo.com to find deeply discounted show tickets. Where ever you travel, price resorts and services you’ve never been able to afford before – you might be pleasantly surprised at how much they’ve been discounted. Four and five star resorts are regularly offering 30-50% off when you stay additional nights. (Stay 2 nights get 1 free etc.) Sandals Resorts are continuing their 65% off sale into 2010. Resorts are throwing in the extras like complimentary breakfast; kids eat and stay free, spa services and even free rounds of golf. The airlines also have more room at the top. Business and First Class seats will see big promotions during 2010 as corporations set travel policies restricting travel to coach class. It will also be a great time to try to use your frequent flyer miles to obtain seating in Business or First Class as more seats will be open. Watch for Europe to put out the welcome matt with gusto this spring. With passengers reluctant to take international journeys after the Christmas bomber incident, Europe will feel the pinch more than usual. Keep an eye out for sites like Gate1Travel.com, GoToday.com, and VacationsToGo.com to offer terrific pricing for trips to Europe. We’ll also likely see fabulous prices on European cruises. They have a short season to fill their cabins and they’ll be running great specials to get you on board. There’s a growing trend in vacation lodging that is expanding by the day – homes, villas, condos and apartments for lease by the day, week or month. Folks who have been unable to sell their vacation properties have listed them on ‘For Rent By Owner’ sites, and as the volume of choices increases, the deals and specials escalate as well. Check out the deals page at VacationRentals.com to begin your search. For anyone with a free spirit who just wants a bed to sleep in, the internet has opened a whole new world of beds and couches for rent (and many times for free). The popular site CouchSurfing.com is a great place to begin – they have communities for everyone from college students to retired adventurers. 2010 is very likely to be a big year for road trips. Gas prices are expected to remain fairly stable and airline attitudes will dampen our desire to fly away. It will be a great year to tune in to regional bed and breakfast associations and watch for seasonal promotions. For New England, become a member of the “Inn Crowd” with deals on the NewEnglandInnsandResorts.com site. For the West Coast, you’ll find gorgeous inns and lodges at UniqueInns.com/specials.

2010 will be filled with opportunities to venture out and meet new people and experience wonderful places. Save your pennies and add some adventure to your life!
