Travel to Europe – France and the Benelux

Posted by admin | France Travel | Posted on July 29th, 2008

If you are decided to do a trip to Europe, or you are a European inhabitant planning to tour the continent, the first decision you should take is to know exactly which part of it do you want to explore, or which cities you are planning to stay in. To give a bit of guidance in your decision, this article looks at one of the popular regions in Europe: France and the Benelux, being this last one the area that includes Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg.

One thing is for sure if you are visiting this zone of Europe. You must be in love with city tourism. If your passion is for the landscape, sightseeing, high mountains, lakes and running crystal water streams, this is probably not your place. Of course France has many interesting natural places to visit, but what I really mean is that you have better places to do this kind of tourism, such as Austria or Switzerland, which are discussed in another of my articles.

Again, the main attractive you will find in this region is the cities themselves. France has by far some of the most beautiful cities you can encounter, many of them with interesting cathedrals, churches and squares. Starting from Paris, next to the worldwide famous Eiffel Tower that so many tourists come to see from everywhere, you can walk up along Champs Elysees, considered one of the most romantic avenues in the world. Visiting the Louvre Museum will give you an insight into the past, as many treasures from the whole world are kept there inside.

Going to Belgium, you will find out that Brussels is such an impressive city too. It is not only about the monuments, but it gives this kind of cozy feeling when walking through its narrow streets. Simply enjoy every corner, and cross your fingers to claim for good weather, as it happens often that you will miss the blue of the sky. Luxembourg is a very small country placed just next to Belgium, but the capital claims for itself to be an independent region. Far from being of the size of Paris or Brussels, it gives many sightseeing opportunities.

One thing to know about this region, even if the train transport can be very good, is that at same time it will be incredibly boring. The landscape is pretty much always the same. Unless you are one of those rail lovers, I highly encourage you to take one of this quick Ryanair flights to cover the big distances. In any case, the train will be useful for the short rides, or in case you have bought one of this rail passes for the whole region.

The similarity that puts together all this people is their language. In any case, we can find very big differences between its habitants. While the French nation has adopted a kind of more luxurious and fashionable life-style, their partners in Belgium are a lot more into the casual way of life. When it comes to characters, you will find the French more arrogant, while the people in Belgium and Luxembourg are from my point of view the most nice guys you can find in the whole Europe.

Whatever you do, in conclusion, take with you the reminder that you go this region to specially admire architecture and beautifully designed cities with a lot of history to tell you. Forget a bit about the natural spots as you can find them in other places in Europe and… Practice your French!

Cheap Tickets and Cheap Flights

Posted by admin | Cheap Flights | Posted on July 23rd, 2008

Are you tired of spending a ton of cash on your airline tickets? I am to that is why I want to share with you the way I find cheap tickets and cheap flights on all of my favorite airlines. The best way to get a cheap ticket is to be ready to take a trip on very little notice. The airlines will begin to drop their fares on all of their flights as it gets closer to the flight day. This is only good if you are alright with changing around the trip you want since the flight could sell out while you are letting the time tick down along with the airfare. Search the web for places that let you know the rates of the flights offered by a number of airlines. Look at the bottom of this article to find the best places for cheap tickets and cheap flights. We scour the internet looking for the right deals for you. Back to the topic at hand.

These websites track the airfares and communicate with the airlines to learn the lowest cost the airline will take for a seat on a particular flight. The reason this can happen is that the flights cost a certain amount to begin with and the airline will slowly discount the rates if the flight is not sold out so that they can offset the flight cost as much as they can. The bottom line is that if they get half the price for a seat that is better than the seat being empty since their cost is still there no matter how many people are flying the plane.

I find that air miles on a credit card is another way to get discounted airfares. You spend money to live anyway so why not allow the credit card company to give you free flights in the process. The best part is that they cost you nothing when you redeem them so if you are low on cash at any given time this does not mean you cannot take a trip and use the miles. These are the best invention in the airline industry since the actual plane.

Use these two tips to save tons of money on all of your air travel needs. Stop by and let us know how they work for you.

A Guide to Self Drive Ski Holidays

Posted by admin | Eurotunnel News | Posted on July 15th, 2008

Many skiers and snowboards now go on their ski holidays by car. There are some benefits about driving that cannot be ignored including the cost, self drive ski holidays will be cheaper if there are a few of you. Secondly, taking children becomes less stressful, you can just throw everything you need in the car. Finally, against popular belief it can be fun too! Here are some suggestions to make your self drive ski holiday as smooth as possible.

1. Consider resorts closest to Calais – good options are Flaine, Morzine or Chamonix.

2. Choose between the cheaper ferry or a faster Eurotunnel. The ferry will take 2 hours, whereas a Eurotunnel will only take around an hour, if traveling late or early this time saving will be noticed.

3. Make sure you only take the toll roads. The national routes in France will take a lot longer, a lot, lot longer, and it’s just not worth it for the cost saved.

4. Make sure you make efficient use of your stops. If you need to get petrol, make everyone go to the loo, if you need to stop for a loo break, then you may as well fill up with petrol.

5. If you’re traveling with children, then it’s worth taking DVD players, and games consoles. Plus once in resort they can be used, to entertain them, leaving you with some relaxing time.

6. If you’re traveling with friends, then it may well be worth looking at getting everyone insured on the car, so you can drive without stopping so much.

7. If you’re not short of time on your trip to and from your ski resort, then it’ll be much less stressful if you stop at a hotel en route and complete the journey in two days. Accor Hotels is a good place to start as they run several chains of different budget hotel chains. The cheapest is Formula 1, you’ll find one of these every 30 miles or so on the motorways, they also run the Etap hotels and Ibis.

8. Check your snow chains fit your car. The ski resort management are pretty good at clearing roads, but you can really never be sure that you won’t arrive in resort in a snow blizzard.

9. Check out the parking at the resort before you leave. Some resorts offer free parking, or your accommodation may well have access to parking, however some resorts do charge for parking, and it would be worth knowing in advance what your options are.

10. If you’re driving through France then don’t forget the kit you are legally obliged to carry in your car. You will need a warning triangle, a reflective jacket and snow chains for snow covered roads.

I hope these tips help you enjoy your self drive ski holiday.
